Southern Pea (Cowpea)
65 days — The plants are upright with white flowers and pods set well above the dark green foliage making them easy to pick. The pods are six to eight inches long, medium sized, slightly curved, prolific, and green in color at the fresh shelly stage (about 65 days) and a dark straw color at the dry stage. The seeds are small, kidney-shaped, and white with an orange eye.
Originally bred by the Department of Horticulture, Texas A & M College, College Station, Texas and released in 1952. It is adapted to do well under diverse conditions but is best suited for the southern United States. Each ounce is approximately 170 seeds.
