‘Yellow Mammoth’ has very large leaves averaging twelve inches wide by twenty-four inches long, borne on plants that grow rapidly and produce high yields. The plant reach forty-eight inches in height when topped, or about six feet when allowed to flower.
Said to be “stemmed for export and used for Swiss wrappers,”[1] it is a multipurpose flue-cured type of tobacco historically used for cigarette and pipe tobacco blending. Tennessee was historically the primary growing region[1] for this old, pre-1880 variety.
